Google is gone, and I don’t konw what’s next.

But it didn’t make any influence to us, we didn’t most the English search engine marketing and English B2C. Kind of a small trading company.

and I saw many white guy began to talke about the rank in baidu, how to konw more about baidu, as the PPC in china is only controled by baidu so far, other potential competitor isn’t strong enough to beat with it.

and I’m gonna say, baidu is stupid enough, the technology is far behind google, I can easily make a good rank in baidu. the only purpose is just for fun.

Like my Chinese personal blog dengshaowei.com

I’m focusing to write something about SEM, also SEO and web analytics and ecommerce.

and you can see my keyword rank about the SEM, here is the screanshot

haha, I’m the second one

you see, the first one is baidu him self..

even though it doesn’t provide any information, just the basic concept of SEM in chinese.

and it ranks the best.

Don’t trust some easy baidu guide, mostly it’s just like google.

but sadly i don’t do service for baidu, because I’m working in the english search engine marketing, as I think google will still be back one day to beat baidu’s ass and kick the fake chinese company out of china.

Long tail does not mean that you should spend hours stuffing (or just adding) relevant keywords to your pages. That spoils your copy and usually takes too long to be profitable. It means that you:

Plan the structure of your site’s content, organizing it into categories, e.g. sports cars and family cars for a car site.

Allocate (e.g.‘tag’) existing content to relevant categories.

Each category has a category home page, e.g. a sports car page, that lists links to relevant pages on your site.

For each category, find target keywords (of course I really mean keyword niches). E.g. italian sports cars, sports car insurance.

If a keyword niche is big then make it a category. E.g. italian sports cars might become a category. Planning a site’s structure can be a big job.

For each target keyword, commission or write a long article with lots of words.

Don’t sweat on the individual keywords within your articles. Leaving that copy natural will target 1000s (sometimes 10s of thousands) of keywords. The big job is the initial keyword research and subsequent site planning.

Analyze results. Which keyword niches bring the most response? Continue your keyword research – looking for more keyword niches to target.

One “mistake” that we consistently see when conducting one of our AdWords account audit and strategy sessions or when beginning work with a new client is that the AdWords report center is not used effectively, or maybe even not at all. In order to know what is working, what is not working and how to make your account better you need to make use of this feature.
You can access the report center by clicking the “Reporting” tab found at the top of the AdWords user interface and selecting reports.

Once the next screen loads you will find reports ranging from individual keyword performance to ad performance – even discovering the exact search queries that are being made on Google.com that then show your ad and delivered a visitor to your site.

There are 11 reports in all.

At the very least, we recommend running an Account Performance report for the past few months at a week-by-week basis to spot major trends.

A few of the other reports we recommend utilizing on a regular basis are:

Placement/Keyword Performance: a favorite. This report will allow you to view performance data for every keyword in your account and discover how often each particular keyword shows your ad, how many clicks a keyword generates, how many conversions a keyword is responsible for and more.

Search Query Performance: one of our other favorites! This will allow you to see the exact search queries being made on Google.com that then show your ad and generated a visitor to your site by way of your ad being clicked. This is an exceptional report for identifying new keywords to be added and also, new negative keywords.

Placement Performance: a newer favorite! This will allow you to see specific performance for any website placement you have added to your content network campaigns.

It should be noted that both the Search Query Performance report and the Placement Performance report can be run directly in the AdWords user interface for any date range that you decide to select. For small, quick changes to your account on a frequent basis this is the best way to utilize these reporting features.

However, we prefer to run these two specific reports via the report center for extended date periods and then download the data that is populated into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. This way you have a great deal of data at your disposal all at once, allowing for greater sweeping changes, which can be conducted in AdWords Editor for robust optimizations to your AdWords account.

Whichever way you personally choose to utilize Google AdWords reports, it’s imperative to take advantage of them (especially the three highlighted above). By doing so you will be able to out perform your competition; and if you use all 11 of them, there will be no stopping your ads.

Compression is part of User Experience stuff, improve the UE and people will feel happy for your website, then

Compression is a simple, effective way to save bandwidth and speed up your site. I hesitated when recommending gzip compression when speeding up your javascript because of problems in older browsers.

The tricky part of this exchange is the browser and server knowing it’s ok to send a zipped file over. The agreement has two parts

The browser sends a header telling the server it accepts compressed content (gzip and deflate are two compression schemes):
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate

The server sends a response if the content is actually compressed:
Content-Encoding: gzip

Setting up the server

The “good news” is that we can’t control the browser. It either sends the
Accept-encoding: gzip, deflate
header or it doesn’t.

Our job is to configure the server so it returns zipped content if the browser can handle it, saving bandwidth for everyone (and giving us a happy user).

In Apache, enabling output compression is fairly straightforward. Add the following to your .htaccess file:

# compress all text & html:
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html text/plain text/xml

# Or, compress certain file types by extension:
<Files *.html>
SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
</Files>

Apache actually has two compression options:

mod_deflate is easier to set up and is standard.

mod_gzip seems more powerful: you can pre-compress content.

Deflate is quick and works, so I use it; use mod_gzip if that floats your boat. In either case, Apache checks if the browser sent the “Accept-encoding” header and returns the compressed or regular version of the file. However, some older browsers may have trouble (more below) and there are special directives you can add to correct this.

If you can’t change your .htaccess file, you can use PHP to return compressed content. Give your HTML file a .php extension and add this code to the top:

In PHP:
<?php if (substr_count($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING'], 'gzip')) ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); else ob_start(); ?>

We check the “Accept-encoding” header and return a gzipped version of the file (otherwise the regular version). This is almost like building your own webserver (what fun!). But really, try to use Apache to compress your output if you can help it. You don’t want to monkey with your files.

then you can check the compressed webpage size here: www.seositecheckup.com

Congratulations, your HTML is compressed. Your page is using gzip compression on your code. This helps ensure a faster loading web page and improved user experience. 79% is the percent size savings you achieved by compressing your HTML. 6.85 kb is the size of your compressed HTML.

I konw it happened, but my english isn’t good enough to translate all for baidu’s Phoenix Nest.

this is from Gordon, great!

Baidu officially retired the old PPC auction system, Classic Edition, as of 1 December 2009. All PPC keyword bidding are to run through the new system, Phoenix Nest.

The integration of the Classic Edition and Phoenix Nest happened on 30 November. During this system upgrade, Baidu shut down advertisers’ access to both the new system and the old system. Today, Baidu resumed the access to Phoenix Nest system.

Baidu has been allowing advertisers to concurrently run both systems (Classic Edition and Phoenix Nest) ever since the launch of Baidu’s Phoenix Nest. However, this Baidu PPC ad auction arrangement was not the ideal way for advertisers to manage their accounts that may have hundreds of thousands of keywords in each system. After the upgrade, you will have to only manage the campaigns in your Phoenix Nest account.

Regarding the display of PPC ads and organic search results, you will not find any significant difference on Baidu’s search results pages. However, based on search queries you will see 3 major different combinations of PPC sponsored ads and organic search results showing up on Baidu’s search engine result pages:

Search queries on high traffic keywords: 10 PPC ads followed by 10 organic search results on the left side and 8 PPC ads on the right side

Search queries on long tail keywords: 3 PPC ads followed by 10 organic search results on the left side and 8 PPC ads on the right side

Search queries on keywords that are below the quality threshold: 10 organic search results and 8 PPC ads on the right side

Classic Edition’s old account data is still available through the report section after this upgrade.

I believe this integration will bring new opportunities to marketers who are focusing on search engine marketing through Baidu. Phoenix Nest is an auction system that you are required to consider your Baidu PPC account’s quality which mainly consists of keyword quality. You should optimize by improving your Baidu PPC’s keywords quality. The old way of keyword bidding by focusing mainly on keyword CPC will be forced to change.

Google’s pay-per-click advertising system Adwords determines ad ranks by applying advertisers’ keyword bids (cost-per-click) and by evaluating quality. To master Adwords, you will need to first understand Google’s Quality Score algorithm.

Google’s Official Guides on Adwords Quality Score

Adwords Quality Score is calculated every time your keyword is eligible to trigger an ad and the Quality Score algorithm varies on whether it is affecting ads on Google and the Search Network or ads on the Content Network:

What is Quality Score and how is it calculated?

How are ads ranked?

How is my keyword’s Quality Score used?

Improving your keywords’ Quality Score is the best way to get your ads to appear above Google’s organic search results:

Can I make my ads appear above search results?

Quality Score is calculated for contextually-targeted and placement-targeted ads:

Is a Quality Score calculated for my contextually-targeted ads?

Landing page quality and landing page load time both contribute towards the calculation of Adwords Quality Score:

Click through rate (CTR) is one of the most important factors in determining your keywords’ Quality Score, but you still should not forget other factors:

My keyword has a high CTR. Why does it have a low Quality Score?

Normally, we can only visit the website use the user-agent of people, but sometimes we can look into the website like the robot does, such as fetch as googlebot.

One small problem is you can only to see fetch as googlebot in the google webmaster tool, so you can’t see other sites’ situation. and today I’ll introduce you a new way to act as googlebot: User-Agent

How to edit the User Agent string

To change the User Agent string, just enter

about:config

as an address in the address bar of FireFox, the location where you normally enter a URL (link). I recommend to preserve the original value, which you can get when you enter just
about:
in the address bar.

Remember to keep the original value, the googltbot sight can’t view the flash and other script code.

Now press the right mouse button to get the context menu and select “String” from the menu entry “New”. Enter the preference name “general.useragent.override”

without the quotes. Next, enter the new User Agent value you want Mozilla Firefox to use. I added my name and a link to my web site to the original value. You can also pick one from the list of User Agent strings. Check the new value by entering
about:
in the address bar.

Detecting Googlebot cloaking

The User Agent string “Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)“, without the quotes can sometimes be used to discover sites that use a simple technique to feed Google’s spider (“Googlebot”) optimized web pages in order to obtain a higher position (spamdexing). This technique is a form of cloaking that is in most cases against the terms of services of Google. If you discover such a web site, and the page can be found with Google, report the offending site to Google for a better search experience.

CPC For Advertisers

Cost per click is really helpful for the advertisers who are looking for potential customers in their niche at a very low cost. Advertisers are changed for every click that is made on their ads. This kind of advertising is really helpful for large as well as small niche markets.

PPC For Publishers

In this kind of advertising scheme, publishers are paid for every click that is made on the ads available on their blog/website. There are many advertising programs like Google adsense, Bidvertiser, Yahoo Publisher Network, Bidvertiser etc publishers can use on their websites to make high amount of money from it.

Here is the list of top CPC/PPC advertising programs widely used to earn money:

1. Google Adsense – is an Advertising program run by Google. With Google adsense, textual, image and video based ads are automatically shown on the publisher’s website once the Adsense code is added. Google uses its search technology to show content related and area specific ads on their publisher’s website.
2. Yahoo Publishers Network – The Yahoo publishing network that’s owned by Yahoo was launched in August, 2005 as a beta program. Right now YPN (Yahoo Publishers Network) is opened for US publishers only.
3. Bidvertiser – Bidvertiser, an advertising company which is in market for the last few years, can be used as a good alternate for Google adsense for making money from your website.
4. Adbrite – Adbrite is another CPC adverting company publishers can use on their websites to earn some money from their websites.
5. Chitika – Like other cpc or ppc programs, chitika offers cpc ad formats as per your blog/website content. With a bit of optimization with Chitika ads, one can earn high amount of revenue from it. To get the best results with Chitika, one has to do some testing work with various chitika ad formats.

Some more CPC or PPC advertising programs are:

MSN Ad Network

Kontera

Kanoodle
