A series of online attacks on Google and dozens of other American corporations have been traced to computers at two educational institutions in China, including one with close ties to the Chinese military, say people involved in the investigation.

They also said the attacks, aimed at stealing trade secrets and computer codes and capturing e-mail of Chinese human rights activists, may have begun as early as April, months earlier than previously believed. Google announced on Jan. 12 that it and other companies had been subjected to sophisticated attacks that probably came from China.

Computer security experts, including investigators from the National Security Agency, have been working since then to pinpoint the source of the attacks. Until recently, the trail had led only to servers in Taiwan.

If supported by further investigation, the findings raise as many questions as they answer, including the possibility that some of the attacks came from China but not necessarily from the Chinese government, or even from Chinese sources.

Tracing the attacks further back, to an elite Chinese university and a vocational school, is a breakthrough in a difficult task. Evidence acquired by a United States military contractor that faced the same attacks as Google has even led investigators to suspect a link to a specific computer science class, taught by a Ukrainian professor at the vocational school.

The revelations were shared by the contractor at a meeting of computer security specialists.

The Chinese schools involved are Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Lanxiang Vocational School, according to several people with knowledge of the investigation who asked for anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the inquiry.

Jiaotong has one of China’s top computer science programs. Just a few weeks ago its students won an international computer programming competition organized by I.B.M. — the ”Battle of the Brains” — beating out Stanford and other top-flight universities.

Lanxiang, in east China’s Shandong Province, is a huge vocational school that was established with military support and trains some computer scientists for the military. The school’s computer network is operated by a company with close ties to Baidu, the dominant search engine in China and a competitor of Google.

Within the computer security industry and the Obama administration, analysts differ over how to interpret the finding that the intrusions appear to come from schools instead of Chinese military installations or government agencies. Some analysts have privately circulated a document asserting that the vocational school is being used as camouflage for government operations. But other computer industry executives and former government officials said it was possible that the schools were cover for a ”false flag” intelligence operation being run by a third country. Some have also speculated that the hacking could be a giant example of criminal industrial espionage, aimed at stealing intellectual property from American technology firms.

Independent researchers who monitor Chinese information warfare caution that the Chinese have adopted a highly distributed approach to online espionage, making it almost impossible to prove where an attack originated.

”We have to understand that they have a different model for computer network exploit operations,” said James C. Mulvenon, a Chinese military specialist and a director at the Center for Intelligence Research and Analysis in Washington. Rather than tightly compartmentalizing online espionage within agencies as the United States does, he said, the Chinese government often involves volunteer ”patriotic hackers” to support its policies.

Spokesmen for the Chinese schools said they had not heard that American investigators had traced the Google attacks to their campuses.

If it is true, ”We’ll alert related departments and start our own investigation,” said Liu Yuxiang, head of the propaganda department of the party committee at Jiaotong University in Shanghai.

I’m reading a book named Business the Richard Branson Way.
I got that from Mr Michelini (my best white friend), the story in the book greatly encourage me.

One story in the book describe the fun business: This is an important factor both in Branson’s own appetite for work and the success of his ventures. Creating an exciting work culture is the best way to motivate and retain good people; it also means you don’t have to pay them as much. This is a useful asset, especially if you don’t have a reputation as a brilliant inventor, or management visionary, to fall back on. It’s all very well being clever, but all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Seems the company culture is a good way to motivate the people to work more. But it’s hard to think about the details of the company culture at the beginning.

If it is a new startup company, how to make people work more? I’m always thinking about it, some local workers do not want to work I think it’s because of their families, yea, they have to go home, they got the relationship, and they are never gonna to worry about the future, everything is prepared by their parents.

I don’t like that.

I want to get some yound men who want to fight day and night like me, who want to make their dream come true in the future, who want to change the situation like Barack Obama.

Yes, We Change.

Oh man, you will win!

Do you konw Bingo Game? I’m not sure whether you understand that, but I’m sure you will say bingo sometimes when you fix something in a short time successfully , that means you get it.

I search some Bingo information in the wikipedia, it says

Bingo (UK), or Housie, a game using a printed ticket of 15 numbers on three lines; most commonly played in the UK, Australia and New Zealand

Bingo (U.S.), a game using a printed ticket of randomly-generated 5×5 numbers; most commonly played in the USA and Canada

U.S. bingo is different from 90 ball bingo when it comes to game play. U.K. players do not play for patterns. Instead they complete the line numbers on the ticket. Since there are three rows, players have up to three chances to win a certain game. When you buy a ticket, you usually get the cards in sets of six. These six cards brought together have all numbers from 1 to 90. Since you have all the numbers possible in the game, players always have something to mark off with every call. (via 90-ball-bingo)

There are so many Bingo game sites now, and I recommend you to try this Bingo game site: http://ladies.888.com.

it’s already in the first page of google, If you want to try, you can. Because I trust them.

Here is a simple instruction for this site: 888 is a leading UK bingo site offering 75 ball bingo, 90 ball bingo as well as many different instant games including scratch cards, ( http://ladies.888.com/popular-games/scratch-cards ) super slots and play and win games. It is part of 888.com

Update: Kaifu Lee @kaifulee tweets: I am not going to join IdeaLab. I will build a new platform for young entrepreneurs, you will have the detail next week.

——————–

According to a guy who is very close to Kaifu Lee, Mr. Lee’s will join cooperate with IdeaLab.com, a new type of venture capital to help Chinese young people create and operate pioneering companies.

Idealab is started by Bill Gross in 1996 to create and operate pioneering technology companies. Reads from its About:

The structure of Idealab allowed us to test many ideas at once and turn the best of them into companies, attracting the human and financial capital necessary to bring them to market.

We can not 100% confirm if the rumor is true. But reads from a couple of reports which wrote that Kaifu Lee used to mentioned in different occasions, he really wanted to help Chinese young people, explore their talent, identify brilliant ideas and guide the young entrepreneurs to make their dream come true. “I wants to follow my heart”, Mr. Lee said.

No matter if the news is true or not, for sure Mr. Lee’s next venture will be very exciting news for Chinese young entrepreneurs.

If I ask who are the popular social networking sites in China? I think most of you will talk about Kaixin001.com, QQ, 51.com and Xiaonei.com. However, since yesterday, there is no Xiaonei.com anymore, Joe Chen, CEO of Oak Pacific changed its name from Xiaonei.com to RenRen.com.

But why changing the already well-known Xiaonei.com brand to Renren.com (brief history of Renren below)? Some people think it is because Xiaonei means “in campus” in Chinese, which limited its users bases on university and college users. By changing its name to Renren, which means “everyone” in Chinese, can help to promote to white collar users, this market is now dominated by Kaixin001.com.

That’s why there is also rumor that Joe Chen plans to merge all three SNS sites under Oak Pacific, i.e. Xiaonei, MOP and Kaixin.com, into Renren.com. But they denied the rumor. If so, they already have Kaixin.com which compete head-to-head with Kaixin001.com on white collar users, why bother to change the name of Xiaonei. After Xiaonei changed name and strategy, will there be another site who can dominate the university and college users SNS market? Will it be QQ Xiaoyou?

Renren.com actually is not a new site, which was founded in 1999 and was a quite high-profile website during the Internet Bubble, it went bankruptcy in 2001. Joe Chen bought Renren.com domain name in 2005. Joe Chen relaunched RenRen.com as an online classified site in 2006, but it was shut down again in 2007

maybe there will be a earchquake in the economy of shenzhen, because the economy problem existed in the real estate and the subway, I heard many real estate developer are ready to run out of china.

HONG KONG — The mayor of China’s southern boomtown of Shenzhen is being investigated in a growing graft probe linked to the billionaire head of the GOME electronics retail chain, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Xu Zongheng had been put under shuanggui — a form of detention imposed on party officials, given his alleged links to Huang Guangyu, the founder of GOME and once ranked China’s richest man, the South China Morning Post reported citing several unnamed sources.

“It [his detention] must have something to do with economic irregularities … but it could also have something to do with a power struggle,” a government source was quoted as saying by the Post.

Corruption investigations in China can be proxies for political struggles.
