I’m forever confused about what a true alpha, beta, and omega are because it seems to be the trend for males to describe themselves and then say “That’s what an alpha male, like myself, is.”
So do enlighten me. Objectively, what traits will be exhibited by each type of male?

The alpha male rules the pack, herd or group of its kind. By extension, in humans it refers to man who is in control of his business, in-house group or area of expertise.
There are no such things as beta males or omega males. Those roles change too fast to be worthy of designation.
There have been several movies about the “omega man,” meaning the last man on earth.

Alpha males are seen by other males as the leader.
The are the loudest, type” a” personalities and probs will die of a heart attack earlier than the followers.
I’ve never heard of beta and omega males, but if I had to guess, they’d be the followers.

Alpha male: Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis etc… Does take any sh1t from no one.
Beta male: The “nice guy” the guy who likes a girl but always end up being used as a shoulder for her to cry on.
Omega male: Male feminist. Buys into this “only men cause problems” BS. Don’t get me wrong nothing wrong with a male wanting to help females but there is something wrong if he’s being a politically correct sissy. As in both genders have problems.

Alpha Male – someone with natural leadership abilities, someone who relies only on himself to get what he wants and needs, someone who is capable of not only taking care of himself but is strong enough to think and provide for others as well, someone who doesn’t need the approval of others, someone who has his own ideas about the way things should be, someone who makes his voice heard, someone who doesn’t let others bully and influence him; an alpha does what HE wants to do because its what he feels is right.
Beta & Omega Male – Pretty much the opposite of what I listed above…

Alpha, beta, gamma,…..,omega males/females was coined by animal behaviorists to try to de-anthropomorphize (dehumanize) their description of animal behavior. So it is rich with irony that people now use this language to describe people.
In my view, this whole alpha/beta stuff lies in the intellectual discipline called “bullshit”.
Place a bunch of men or women in one setting, say a science lab, and one or two will rise to the top as the leaders. In another setting, say a child-care situation, someone different will assume the leadership role. Still another setting, say sports, and yet someone else rises to the fore.
The language of alpha/beta… male/female misses all that. Humans are simply too complex to be reduced to a greek symbol.
