I am trying to beat depression the natural way. I heard you should take more B Vitamins & more Omega 3s. How much of these should I take? I plan on also taking St Johns Wort. Also on ebay you can buy St Johns wort Supplements for like £1.50 where as in boots they are about £20 so are the ones on ebay as good and trustworthy?

even if they are real they probably wont make a difference, you might as well take placebos and feel better

The best thing I can recommend is natural, and it’s free.Sunlight.It boosts vitamin D in your body which is a natural anti-depressant.I wouldn’t trust any tablets off the internet, also it’s not good to keep taking tablets as the side effects can be harmful.
I was on Cipramil for a while but I got the doctor to wean me off them, and I’ve had clinical depression for most of my life.

Claire- Let me start by stating that I am NOT a doctor, so this information cannot be used as medical advice. That said, I am vary familiar with the subject, and may be able to point you in the correct direction.

First, you are correct about B-vitamins and omega 3’s helping with depression. Both help with brain function. I would recommend a good B complex vitamin, taken at labeled doses, plus extra B6. B6 can be especially useful for depression, but is needed at higher dosages (250mg/day) then is found in a normal B complex. I would go with a company such as NOW foods for these.

Next, you are also correct about the benefits of omega 3 on mental health. The brand I most highly trust is Nordic Naturals.

The other user was also correct on vitamin D. Most of the civilized world is severely deficient. We spend too much time inside, so get outside more. If not possible, you can supplement this as well. Vitamin D3 around 2000mg/day has shown to be beneficial.

I would NOT buy the supplements on ebay. The supplement industry is already loosely regulated, your chances of getting something of quality on ebay is very slim. The company that I always buy from is iherb.com. They’ve been the cheapest source of quality products that I have found. They’re located in the US, but ship international airmail for only $4.00. This site http://www.iherb-coupon-review.com had a coupon code (HOF701) for iHerb for $5.00 off and the reduced shipping. I haven’t used this coupon, but give it a try!

P.s. I’m not familiar enough with St. John’s Wort to comment on that.

    Hope this helps!

It might make a difference if you have a mild depression. Recommended dosage: Take up to 1000 mg of vitamin C. Take one or two capsules of Omega 3 fish oil a day.
