I’m a SEM people, I work both in baidu and in google.
At the beginning, I made lots of chinese weibsites, I can feel the technology and the level of both baidu and google.
I can say the baidu’s technology is far away from google, and it’s truth.
SO THE QUESTION IS: why the Google with great technology can not beat baidu in china?
This topic must be talked about for many years, but it’s my perspective for the development of chinese business, not only internet, but also other business in china.
Mainly I think it’s two parts, one is for the public relation(PR), but not only public, but also private relation, it’s said Baidu’s PR team can spread the baidu good news all over the chinese internet within 5 minutes.
Can you believe it? FIVE mintues
That means, anything bad about baidu they can also delete it within 5 minutes.
and it’s also said baidu’s PR team(group) is the second best PR team in china, with more than 500 people inside.
and you can see totally how many google people in china?
Another mainly thing is about the product, the community named tieba, and also the MP3, the zhidao

and there are lots of similar communities around baidu.
It’s stupid though, but it’s useful to get the mainland chinese people, because many chinese people mainland are still not so educated, they just need a simple thing to get what they need, they don’t need technology, they just want to download, to talk, to play in the community.
In china, it’s simple.
So if you want to do business, remember two things, one is the relationship(GuanXi), the other is simple and easy to understand.
